We recognize the incredible potential of young girls and women in Kenya. With your help, Rusalia continues to provide guidance and study to Rusalia Scholars, so they are college-ready, and understand the value of education, personal strength and independence, and service to the community.
Girl’s Education Changes Everything
We envision a transformed Kenyan community valuing quality education to empower economically disadvantaged young women to become compassionate leaders.
Resources
Each completed year of secondary school increases a woman’s income by twenty-five percent.
Health
Increasing girls’ access to education improves maternal health & decreases a girl’s or woman’s risk for contracting HIV or transmitting HIV to her baby.
Empowerment
Investing in girls’ education provides a boost to a developing country’s progress, and acts as a catalyst for gender equality on multiple levels.
Food
Globally, if all girls received primary education, then 1.7 million children would be rescued from poverty-induced malnutrition.
What We Provide
Mentorship
Through mentorship, we hope to increase the graduation rate of these young Rusalia Scholars through health education, inspiration, and educational support.
Role Models
By providing young women with new connections including an accomplished mentorship team of Kenyan professionals and additional support from the Notre Dame community and alumni of the Inspired Leadership Initiative, we create a community that encourages academic and personal success.
Financial Support
We hope the financial burden of Rusalia never becomes a barrier for women to join the program. Through the generosity of our donors, we hope to sponsor any student who needs financial assistance.

Kisumu is the 3rd largest city in Kenya. It is situated at the gulf of Lake Victoria which is the world's second largest freshwater lake. The dominant tribe is the Luo.
Trade, farming, and fishing are the main economic activities in Kisumu, Kenya. The city is an important political center as well as a premier industrial and commercial hub. Despite its growing economy, Kisumu still has one of the highest poverty levels in Kenya.
